Learn How to Erase Firefox Internet History

When it comes to keeping our computers in good working order, we often have a set hierarchy that includes running our anti virus on a regular basis, making sure Windows is properly updated and running our anti spyware program once in a while. One important step that many people skip is clearing out our browser’s history and cache. When you use a browser, whether it be the new Google Chrome, Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, a record of all of your surfing is kept and bits and pieces of every website we visit are saved. It is up to you to clear out all of that junk every few days to save room on your hard drive. Let’s take a look at exactly how you view Firefox Internet history and how you can set up your browser to automatically take care of your history in the future.

If you were to download an original version of Internet Explorer and run it side by side with a current version, you probably wouldn’t notice a lot of similarities. Both programs allow you to view web pages, but other than that, they don’t have much in common. Today’s browsers have so many bells and whistles that it can be hard to keep them all straight, but one thing both of those browsers would have is a cache and a browser history. A cache was an absolutely vital part of surfing the web ten years ago, but today, in a world of broadband connections, it has really outlived its usefulness. Your cache is responsible for saving bits and pieces of websites you visit so that the entire webpage doesn’t have to load from scratch every time you visit it. You can bet that in the near future, browsers won’t even have caches at all, but until those new versions are released, you still need to know how to view Firefox Internet history and how to manage it.

In your Firefox browser, you need to click on Tools, and then Options. You’ll see a pop up window appear and in that window, choose the Privacy tab next. The first option there is for your history. You can tell your browser how long you want to store your history for. If you have a shared computer or one that is in a public place, you’ll want to keep that number low, but if you are the only user on your PC, you can keep it on the default setting. The next two check boxes are for the autofill feature that fills in search boxes for you and for Firefox to remember what you’ve downloaded. Next, you can choose whether you want to accept cookies, although many websites will fail to load correctly if you don’t. Finally, you can clear all of your private data, such as your browsing history and your cache every time you close Firefox. This is a great setting to use if you want to maximize your security in Firefox. If you clear your history after every use, you’ll notice that the only websites that are listed in the browser bar are ones you have bookmarked. Any other sites visited will be erased.

This setting allows for a practically maintenance free usage of Firefox. Now that you know how to view Firefox Internet history, you can configure the browser to work any way you like. Remember, good computer care starts with knowing your way around your PC and knowing how to view Firefox Internet history is a big part of that.
